The Allotment Wife

Another day, another bed

Day 2 of our allotment ownership, and we’ve now planted up a couple more beds. In one, we have begonia and verbena, lettuce and beetroot. In the other we have more lettuce and an assortment of flowers K has grown from seed at home and which are now plug plants. These include a geum (Mrs Bradshaw – a glorious red that I love), angels’ fishing rods, and foxgloves, as well as one or two others.

In other good news, the bed from yesterday appears to be intact, so the slug pellets are obviously working (sorry – no hope of organic gardening here – I’m a farmer’s daughter …!). Shame we forgot to bring the pellets today though, so hope everything we’ve planted survives. Other concerns are pigeons and mice, not to mention the lone rabbit which apparently lurks around every now and again and causes havoc. I feel netting might well be the way forward.
